Sweden: Another link in the chain of our European Intermodal Network

With a new rail connection between Trelleborg in the South and Eskilstuna in the North, LKW WALTER is expanding its intermodal network within Sweden. This creates many opportunities and further advantages for our customers. Firstly, all national transports using the new company train will significantly minimise the CO2 output. Secondly, it enables a seamless intermodal routing by rail & ferry from Sweden to all the major metropolitan hubs of Europe - from the port of Trelleborg the trailer arrives at Rostock/Travemünde, where multiple intermodal connections await. With such developments, even more transports are shifted from road to short sea or rail, enabling us and our partners to reduce CO2 emissions.

Notable achievements in 2021

Given the figures in 2021, the potential of intermodal transport is clear. The shift from road to short sea and rail helped us to reduce CO2 emissions by over 450,000 tons last year.

Strong partnerships

One reason for such improvements is the committed partnership with companies like TX Logistik AB, the Swedish subsidiary of the German TX Logistik AG. On the 31st of January 2022 we are celebrating the start of our new connection between Trellborg and Eskilstuna, around 100 kilometers west of Stockholm. Initially planned are four roundtrips per week with up to 38 full trailers on each train. The trains will run between the port of Trelleborg and the transport terminal in Eskilstuna, one of the most important inland terminals in Sweden.
