The Future of Transport: Green Corridors

LKW WALTER is a pioneer and expert in intermodal transport and handles a high transport volume by rail and ship. This enables us to save more than 341,501 tonnes of CO₂ per year. Developments in the areas of alternative drives and fuels can make this number grow even faster in the future. That's why we are already working on expanding our network of Green Corridors.

Green Corridors

Green Corridors are sustainable transport solutions that reduce the CO₂ footprint from loading to unloading point by up to 90 percent. They are a combination of alternative drives and fuels for feeder services and rail for the long haul - this is how we combine the best of both worlds.

To create a Green Corridor, there are two options:

using Combined Transport

Tractor units in the feeder services are being switched from fossil diesel to alternative fuels such as HVO100 and LBG100, or to electric drives.

using classic Road Transport

Transports are mainly carried out over shorter distances with sustainably fuelled vehicles.

Green Corridors pave the way for climate-friendly transport concepts. Our approach remains open to technology, and we are shaping the change together with our customers and partners. Since the start in 2024, more than 10,000 full truck loads have already been processed in Green Corridors
In the coming years, LKW WALTER will focus on expanding a pan-European network of Green Corridors in order to further advance the reduction of CO₂ emissions and achieve our ambitious climate goals. With the LKW WALTER Book & Claim System, we also ensure that we can transparently and comprehensibly prove the use of emission-reduced fuels and drives along a Green Corridor.

Alternative fuels and drives in Combined Transport

Alternative fuels and drive technologies will play an increasingly important role in the future, especially at LKW WALTER with regard to the expansion of our pan-European network of Green Corridors. For this, we are increasingly relying on the use of, for example, HVO100 in the feeder services of Combined Transport. Battery-electric vehicles are already in use, especially on shorter routes - more will follow.
By combining alternative fuels such as HVO100 in feeder services with rail over longer distances, LKW WALTER achieves CO₂ savings of up to 90 percent - a significant contribution to achieving our climate goals and those of our customers.
