Transport insurance protects your goods from damage or loss during transport – whether by road, rail or ferry.
Forwarders and common carriers are only liable to a limited extent and not for all damages – e.g. in the case of unavoidable events, breakage damage, or consider the weight limitation when calculating the amount of damage within the framework of the CMR. Transport insurance, on the other hand, offers more comprehensive protection.
Damage during loading and unloading or stowage of the goods on the truck

Damage due to the natural properties of the goods (e.g. breakage, rust or leakage)

Damage in accidents

Damage in unavoidable events (including armed robbery)

Damage in any kind of natural disasters and elemental events
If the goods are new and packaged for transport, LKW WALTER can offer full coverage.

Full coverage includes, among other things:

Fire, lightning strike and explosion

Earthquake, flood, volcanic eruption and other natural disasters (avalanches, mudslides, rockfall)

Transport accident, derailment, ferry accident (general average)

Theft and loss

Collapse of bridges and warehouse buildings

Breakage*, leakage, burst bag

Loading and unloading

Dampness*, rust*, oxidation*

The following damages cannot be compensated, even by the additional transport insurance

War, strike, civil war, civil unrest, riot, sabotage

Confiscation by higher authority (e.g. confiscation by customs due to incorrectly issued invoices or customs samples)

Damage caused by spoilage or infestation by insects

Surface damage (paint, scratch and scrape damage)

Design and manufacturing defects

Damage caused by radioactivity and nuclear energy

Financial losses (production delays, additional personnel costs)

Damage due to inadequate packaging or load securing
No, it is voluntary. However, LKW WALTER recommends separate transport insurance to avoid financial risks in the event of damage.
The insured amount is based on the value of the goods plus transport costs. Use our calculator to determine the premium amount
Transport insurance coverage is only valid for transports carried out by LKW WALTER. Accordingly, transport insurance only applies in countries where LKW WALTER operates.
The Austrian Insurance Association's AÖTB (www.vvo.at) and the International Underwriting Association of London's ICC (Institute Cargo Clauses) (www.iua.co.uk) in their valid version shall apply.
Yes The goods must be new and adequately packaged for transport. Used goods are only insurable to a limited extent.
The prerequisite for transports to/from Russia, Belarus, Iran, Iraq and Syria is a positive sanction check by the insurance company.
Insurance is possible up to a value of goods of EUR 600,000. If you require coverage beyond this amount, please request this separately.
War risks or political unrest are excluded.
Damages should be documented immediately and reported without delay – photos, a note of the damage on the shipping papers or a damage report will help with swift processing. LKW WALTER gladly supports you with the claims handling.
