Safety/Security - Health - Environment - Quality

The integrated management system combines the processes, methods and tools that are required to perform various safety, health, environment and quality-related tasks in one coherent structure.

In the SHEQ management team there are employees from transport partner management who work directly on these cross-departmental topics.

Brief overview of milestones

More than 25 years ago, the foundation for today's SHEQ management was laid with the launch of a quality management system.
1990 
Initial development of a quality management system 

1992 
Quality certification in accordance with ISO 9002:1987 

1995 
Launch of company environmental management system 

1996 
Development of a health and safety management system 

1997 
SQAS Assessment (Safety and Quality Assessment for Sustainability) 

2000 
Development of a comprehensive transport partner management system, integration of transport partners into our management systems 

2004 
Signed the "European Road Safety Charter" 

2005 
Merging of four areas of responsibility (Safety, Health, Environment, Quality) into one integrated management system, named SHEQ management. Appointment of SHEQ management team.

2008
Development of a security management system and integration into SHEQ management (Safety, Security, Health, Environment, Quality) 

2009
Joined the "Responsible Care" sustainable development initiative, recognised throughout Europe 

2010
AEO-F certification (Authorised Economic Operator Customs and Security) 

2011
Start of the company-wide initiative "Success through quality" 

2012
Intensification of driver training in combined transport (FIT) in cooperation with DEKRA, focusing on service, safety and load securing 

2013
Implemention of a code of conduct 

2014
Initial CSR performance rating ("Silver Level") by EcoVadis, the global platform for CSR ratings. 

2015
Creation and audit of a HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) concept for the transportation of packaged foodstuffs. 

2016
Certification of our environmental management system according to ISO 14001

SHEQ Management tasks

The tasks perfomed by the SHEQ management team at LKW WALTER are as challenging as they are varied:

 

  • Bi-annual management meetings with the Board
  • Topic-specific participation of our operations and sales directors in management meetings.
  • Monthly round-table discussions by the SHEQ management team
  • Organisation and implementation of specific technical training sessions and workshops
  • Employee coaching
  • Organisation and implementation of internal audits
  • Conducting external audits (by customers and independent organisations)
  • Risk management: analysis of incidents, development of preventative measures
  • Providing support for Transport Partner Management
  • Coordination of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) activities
  • Recertification of management systems
  • Help desk for emergency situations
  • Planning, implementation and controlling of topic-specific projects (e.g. developing security management), involvement of other shared service departments
  • Cooperation in international work groups (harmonisation, development and improvement of standards etc.)
